... BREEDING FAMILIARS ...

SO. You've created some Familiars and you've seen some amazing creations by other group members. Wouldn't it be swell if you could... COMBINE THEM?

Of course it would.

So here comes the breeding option! This is a little more of a time investment, so please read the rules carefully before proceeding. If done correctly, you'll not only have fun getting to design some extremely unique Familiars (and BABY ones at that), but you might make back some of that time investment when you sell those babies off to the highest bidder.

(A GUIDE TO SWEET SWEET FAMILIAR LOVE)

  • Before you even think about breeding, you need to make sure you (or the Keeper of your Familiar's breeding partner) own one of these:

This is the Love Potion #9.5 and it is the only way a kept Familiar can procreate. This item can be obtained through quests or world events.

  • Next, you need to OBTAIN PERMISSION from the member whose Familiar you'd like to breed with your Familiar. FAMILIARS MUST BE MALE/FEMALE. It's a fantasy world with love potions and whacky monster creations, yes, but let's assume we want some measure of challenge and that the genders serve an actual purpose.

  • Once two members have agreed to breed their Familiars, one of the members needs to COMMENT HERE and inform us of the happy event. Please use this form template:

Names of the 2 participating members:
    Names of Familiars breeding:
Which member is using their Love Potion #9.5:

  • When your comment is received, both participating members will receive a NOTE. This note will contain the number of offspring your Familiars have produced (Familiars can have litters of 4-12 pups--a number which we will roll for you), any inherited Element or Class (pups have a 1 in 10 chance of inheriting one or both), and their rolled genders. To keep the system fair for both participating members, the number of pups will always be an even number so that each person can draw half of the litter.

  • NOW IT'S TIME TO DRAW DRAW DRAW. The litter will be split, and each member will receive half of the pups, which they must now design. The pups must have some combination of their parent's designs, NOT SIMPLY ATTRIBUTES OF THE ANIMALS THAT THE PARENTS WERE BASED ON. This means that you are NOT just drawing your own take on a duck/donkey/t-rex/peacock. You are designing pups that meld the characteristics of the Familiars the members have already designed. It is up to you how much of the mother and the father each pup retains, and you are free to explore the characteristics of the original designs in fun ways, but PUPS SHOULD LOOK LIKE A COMBINATION OF THE PARENTS.

  • Once you have drawn your half of the pups, it is up to you to find homes for them! You are free to keep one or all of the babes for yourself if you do not go over your allotted number of Familiars, but the rest must be put up for bidding by posting a line-up of the litter to the Breeding Gallery. Be sure to include information about the pups in your gallery post's comments (mother and father, owners of the parents, any element or class, and genders of the pups). If you do not manage to find homes for your pups within a week, and cannot keep them yourself, you can create a new line-up (using the same art) of the remaining pups and post them to the Adoptions Gallery. These Familiars will be offered for adoption in exchange for 200 points to support the group (please specify this in your description and request all potential adopters note the-monster-makers for adoption inquiries), and if they are not claimed, they will be released back into the wilds!

  • Bidding will typically be for points or artwork (or upgrades if you have some that are unused), though we will leave the parameters of the auction up to each member. We assume no responsibility for failed transactions or bad customers, though we will assure that no member receives a pup if they have failed to deliver the agreed-upon auction price. The timeframe for your auction is also your prerogative, though if you have not placed your pups within a week, any unclaimed pups must go up for Adoption.

  • When your pups have been placed in new homes or moved to the Adoptions Gallery, you must make it clear that the pup is now the property of the new owner, and then COMMENT HERE to inform us of which pup was taken by which member. Ownership will NOT BE OFFICIAL until we have been informed and have updated the membership list. These Familiars will be listed as Combo Familiars, rather than hybrids of animals. It is now up to the new owner to create a Familiar Sheet for their new Familiar.

  • Following the breeding, new pups cannot breed until they are 10 days old, and the pup's parents can also not breed again for 10 days.
